HP LaserJet P4014n Overview

The HP LaserJet P4014n is a compact A4 mono laser printer built for workgroups of five to ten users. It prints at up to 43 pages per minute (43ppm) on A4, so it keeps pace with high-volume shared environments. Also, it delivers true 1200 x 1200 dpi output via HP ProRes 1200. Consequently, this means sharp text and fine-line detail on every page. Because Instant-on Technology delivers the first page in just 8.5 seconds from Ready mode, no one waits at the printer. Note: HP’s part number for this model is CB507A. So that is the ordering reference.

Specifically, the P4014 uses a 540 MHz processor. It ships with 128 MB of RAM. Furthermore, memory expands to 640 MB via a DIMM slot. Also, it supports PCL 6, PCL 5e, and PostScript 3. So it works with most drivers. This makes it compatible with a wide range of office software and workflows.

HP LaserJet P4014n Speed and Resolution

The HP LaserJet P4014n reaches up to 43ppm on A4 — the US Letter speed is 45ppm, but the correct UK A4 figure is 43ppm. So it clears large document runs quickly without creating a backlog at the printer. Note: the recommended monthly volume is 3,000 to 12,000 pages. Furthermore, the maximum duty cycle is up to 175,000 pages per month.

Resolution is true 1200 x 1200 dpi using HP ProRes 1200. This is a native engine resolution, not an enhancement mode. Also, HP FastRes 1200, REt, 600 dpi, and 300 dpi modes are selectable in the driver. The result is consistently sharp output across a full range of document types.

HP LaserJet P4014n Paper Capacity and Connections

The P4014 holds 600 sheets standard: a 100-sheet multipurpose Tray 1 for envelopes and special media, plus a 500-sheet Tray 2 for everyday stock. Output is handled by a 500-sheet top bin and a 100-sheet rear bin. Optional add-ons expand input to 3,600 sheets total. These include up to three additional 500-sheet trays and a 1,500-sheet high-capacity input tray.

Connection is via Hi-Speed USB 2.0. This model has no built-in network interface. Also, the EIO expansion slot accepts an optional Jetdirect print server, so network printing can be added if needed. If Ethernet networking is a requirement from the outset, the P4014n includes it as standard.

HP LaserJet P4014n in the P4014 Family

The P4014 family shares the same 43ppm A4 engine and 1200 dpi resolution across all three models. All three also offer 600-sheet standard input and a 175,000-page monthly duty cycle. The key differences are connection and duplex. Specifically, the base P4014 (CB506A) is USB-only. Manual duplex via an optional accessory. The P4014n (CB507A — this model) adds Gigabit Ethernet and 128 MB base memory, making it the right choice for shared office environments. The P4014dn (CB512A) matches the P4014n and also includes automatic duplex as standard.

Above this family, the P4015 series offers 50ppm and extra features for larger workgroups.

No. The P4014 supports manual duplex via the driver. An optional CB519A duplexer adds two-sided printing. The P4014dn in the same family includes automatic duplex as standard.
