The HP LaserJet P4014dn is a compact A4 mono laser printer built for workgroups of five to ten users. It prints at up to 43 pages per minute (43ppm) on A4, so it keeps pace with high-volume shared environments. Additionally, it delivers true 1200 x 1200 dpi output via HP ProRes 1200. Consequently, this means sharp text and fine-line detail on every page. Because Instant-on Technology delivers the first page in just 8.5 seconds from Ready mode, no one waits at the printer. Specifically, the P4014 uses a 540 MHz processor. It ships with 128 MB of RAM. Furthermore, memory expands to 640 MB via a DIMM slot. Also, it supports PCL 6, PCL 5e, and PostScript 3. This makes it compatible with a wide range of office software and workflows.

The HP LaserJet P4014dn reaches up to 43ppm on A4 — the US Letter speed is 45ppm, but the correct UK A4 figure is 43ppm. Furthermore, the maximum duty cycle is up to 175,000 pages per month.

Resolution is true 1200 x 1200 dpi using HP ProRes 1200. This is a native engine resolution, not an enhancement mode. Additionally, HP FastRes 1200, REt, 600 dpi, and 300 dpi modes are selectable in the driver. The result is consistently sharp output across a full range of document types.

The P4014 holds 600 sheets standard: a 100-sheet multipurpose Tray 1 for envelopes and special media, plus a 500-sheet Tray 2 for everyday stock. Output is handled by a 500-sheet top bin and a 100-sheet rear bin. Optional accessories allow expansion to 3,600 sheets total — including up to three additional 500-sheet trays and a 1,500-sheet high-capacity input tray.

Connection is via Hi-Speed USB 2.0. This model has no built-in network interface. However, the EIO expansion slot accepts an optional HP Jetdirect print server, so network printing can be added if needed. If Ethernet networking is a requirement from the outset, the P4014n includes it as standard.

HP LaserJet P4014dn in the P4014 Family

The P4014 family shares the same 43ppm A4 engine and 1200 dpi resolution across all three models. All three also offer 600-sheet standard input and a 175,000-page monthly duty cycle. Key differences: connection and duplex. Specifically, the base P4014 (CB506A) is USB-only. Manual duplex needs an add-on. Meanwhile, the P4014n (CB507A) adds Gigabit Ethernet and 128 MB base memory for shared environments. Finally, the P4014dn (CB512A — this model) matches the P4014n and also includes automatic duplex as standard, making it the most fully featured model in the range.

Above this family, the P4015 series offers 50ppm and extra features for larger workgroups.
